The following is a short story as told by Theo.

There is a little house and two wolves. Once upon a time there were two wolves and one house. And the people was in it and we saw it outside and the house turned into a wooden piano and then the people will fly in the piano, mashed potato piano. Two wolves run very fast but they can't get the peoples piano and break it. And then the people run very fast but the wolves caught up. Then the alligators came to the house and the people didn't like the alligators. They knocked the house down.

Theo the brainiac

Tonight I was getting Theo ready for bed, which has become somewhat 'difficult' at times. He's a bit of a night owl, and although he's only 2 and a half he's not interested in being told when it's time for bed. We'll get him in his jammies, read a couple books and get him quiet in the crib, sing a song to/with, him but when we leave the room, 1 of 2 things happens... 1) he screams for a few minutes then tires himself out and falls asleep; or 2) he stays up singing and counting for long time, a much as an hour.
But that's not why I'm writing this. When Theo goes in for the night he needs a few things, namely his Blankie, a book or two, a small stuffed giraffe originally named George but now named Sophie (another story for another blog post, yeah I'm trying to get back in the habit), and a Nalgene sippy cup filled with water. Some nights the cup has too much water or not enough water so that problem will need to be rectified prior to leaving, the cup also needs to have a sticker with his name on it, "T - H - E - O, see daddy?". Again, this is not why I'm writing this, but we are getting closer.
Tonight, as I was preparing to read to him, after he sat in for 3 stories in Baybub's room (Jacob, if you couldn't guess), Theo asked for his water. I had just filled it and placed it in his crib against the far wall, I got up and went to

grab the bottle and hand it to him. He became incensed. What I didn't realize was that he needed to get the water bottle "by me own self". I put the bottle back in, however I (stupidly) put it against the front railing. After Theo reminded me, I put the bottle back in the same spot where I had grabbed it from moments before. Keep in mind it's in the crib, which has railings roughly 40" high, about up to my belly-button. Before you start guessing that he scaled the crib, jumped the railing grabbed the water and hopped our, he didn't.
Here's what my little man did: first, he walked to the end of the crib and nudged it a bit so he could squeeze his arm in between the back of the crib and the wall, then he was able to move it away from the wall far enough where he could jam his big belly into the space. Now, though the 1.5 inch space between the slats in the railing he was able to touch the water bottle (so close, yet so far). So next, he knocks the bottle on its side and pushed it so it rolled to the front railing of the crib. After that he proudly marches back around to the front, reaches through the slats of the railing and grabs the bottle with his left hand. He raised it up as high as he could get it, well over his head, then with a flick of his wrist he got the bottle to crest the top of the railing and in one smooth motion he raised his right hand (which wad already holding Blankie mind you) and triumphantly grabbed the water bottle, now freed from the jail that is Theo's crib. Finally he raised it to his lips and took a belt off its plastic nozzle, I'm sure he's never tasted water so sweet. He didn't say 'see old man, I'm quite capable' or even give me a knowing glance...
He just quietly returned to the carpet in the middle of his room, now ready for me to read "The Pigeon finds a hot dog", by Mo Willems.

Not sure where he'll apply these amazing skills in his life, but I'll be watching.

I've taken a bit of a break from blogging. I blame it on the little guy. His decision not to walk has been surprising, so in return, I decided not to blog.... That is, until now. Today I think I can safely say that Theo has started walking. For about a week now he's taken a number of steps at a time. Then today, he walked from the back of the living room to the front door, unprompted. When I got home from work he was wandering around the backyard kicking a ball. I'll follow up with some video soon (hopefully). Mazel tov to Theo Ethan!

Do you? I can tell you I know that Jacob's are not where they used to be. I'm sure you can't wait to learn more about Adenoids (aka Pharyngeal tonsil) so go ahead, give it a click.

Jacob had his adenoidectomy procedure this past Tuesday. I'm here to tell you that it went about as well as we could have hoped. We got to the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary before 7:30am on Tuesday and we were back at home before 1pm. Jacob was very brave! He had general anestesia and came through it without any side effects. He was back at school on Thursday.

The doctors decided it was time to take this step for many reasons, the goal was to help clear his constant state of congestion... they suggested this may also help with his general disinterest in all things 'food'.

When Jacob fell asleep on Tuesday night, he slept nearly silently, the noises we had been accustomed to hearing (loud snoring/breathing) were totally gone. In the days since the procedure he's told me "I'm hungwee Daddy" more frequently than he did in the prior 2 years.

I'm very happy we did it, and that its over. Next up, first trip to the dentist... scheduled for early April.

Full disclosure, my good friend Marc works handles their distribution and strategic partnerships (fancy way of saying he works hard), so I want to see them do well. That said, I only recommend technology that I think is worth your time.

The guys had their respective 3yr and 1 yr doctors visit this
afternoon. The doctor was very gave a very good report on both of them.
Jacob is now 30lbs and is on the 30th percentile for both height and
weight. Theo is up to 25 lbs and on the 75th percentile for both
height and weight.
In other news, Theo likes food.

Trip to Bubbe/Shaina's house in RI

Last weekend we went to visit the family in Narragansett. Lots of fun down there. Theo, Jacob, and Daddy got up real early (so as not to wake up the rest of the house) and walked down to the beach. As you probably saw in a previous post, we watched a tractor 'comb the (desert) beach'. Jacob loved it... Theo really didn't care, he was just happy to be near Jacob.

We learned the finer points of a game called ladderball. Highly recommended! Fun for the whole family. Zaide put on quite a display, he had a good run, until Daddy found his groove and smoked all of the competition.

We spent plenty of quality time on the beach with ALL of the family... there were Milsteins and Gootzits as far as the eye could see, and even an occasional Sussman. Jacob and Theo's favorites were the cousins. Shaina, Molly, Hannah and Suzanne did such a great job of helping out with the little guys. Jacob and Theo are already looking forward to the trip down there next summer.
Note to Zaide... its not a mistake that there are no beach pix included here...

We are very happy to announce that we have a new neighbor... Jack Aaron Kaplan was born this morning. He and his mom are doing well... (Jack was elated to learn that he will share a birthday with Jacob and Theo's uncle Ross). As you can see in the picture, Olivia is very excited about her new baby brother.

Parks

There are a couple of great parks in our neighborhood. Daddy and the boys visited two of the best this weekend. Theo slept through most of his park trip yesterday, however Jacob made the most of his time. He was busy amazing kids of all ages with vocabulary and his climbing technique.

Jacob and Theo were very happy to be able to help Ross celebrate his 27th birthday. Lynn prepared some ribs which Uncle Micah expertly fired up on the grill. I had 10 ribs and I'm not at all ashamed to say it.

Talk about 'shewel' (school)

So Jacob, pictured here talking to his brother, has decided that he needs to join Theo in Theos's crib each morning for a few minutes. Theo loves having company. This goes on for a few minutes until Jacob gets overexcited and starts jumping around and comes a little too close to landing on Theo's head. That's when daddy takes Jacob out.

Jacob has also got us trained in his night-time routine. After bath/shower time is over we read a book or two. Then the lights are turned off and Jacob asks/demands 'stay five minutes' then we let him pick either mommy or daddy. At that point the unchosen party departs and the lucky parent gets to lay down next to Jacob in his big boy bed.

Jacob then immediately says "talk about shewel" or school (he's still struggling with the letter combinations. We then spend the next five minutes discussing either his day at school, the last time he was at school, or the next time he gets to go to school. We cover his friends at school, of course the teachers, and then we talk about the different things he does at school. Sometimes he'll lean in real close, (nose to nose) and say, 'Hi Daddy'. I truly treasure this time because neither of us can be distracted by anything else. We can just talk and talk... Believe me, this kid can talk...

Its pretty clear he likes school a lot. I wonder how long that will last.

Purim Carnival

We took the kiddies over to the Purim Carnival at the temple where
Jacob goes to school. Lots of fun over there, although in my opinion
there wasn't nearly eonugh Hamen heckiling.
When it was time to go home I had to litterally wait for Jacob to
bounce near the doorway and pull him off the moonwalk. He loved it!
Sadly the camera stayed home so you'll need to conjure up the image in
your head.

We convinced Theo to try on the bathrobe Jacob wore 2 yrs ago for a

Quick Update

Theo had his 6 month dr. appt last week. Aside from getting 3 shots, we learned that he is 18 lbs, 2 oz. A big boy, but only in the 60th percentile. What's more amazing is that mommy guessed his weight, exact to the ounce before we put the little dude in the scale/bucket. Theo has really been enjoying his Jumperoo... lots of bouncing going on in there. Today he figured out that he could go around in circles in addition to bouncing. He's also been a very quick study in terms of eating baby food. So far he's a fan of sweet potato, apples, and bananas.
